Tata Memorial Hospital was established in 1941 under the vision of Sir Dorabji Tata, with the mission to provide comprehensive cancer care to all, regardless of socioeconomic status. Located in the heart of Mumbai, Maharashtra, our hospital spans over 20 acres and houses state-of-the-art facilities, including advanced diagnostic centers, surgical suites, radiation therapy units, and dedicated research laboratories. We treat over 60,000 new cancer patients annually, offering a multidisciplinary approach that integrates surgery, chemotherapy, radiation therapy, and palliative care.

Our team comprises more than 500 full-time specialists, supported by 3,000 nursing and paramedical staff, ensuring round-the-clock care. We are accredited by the National Accreditation Board for Hospitals & Healthcare Providers (NABH) and maintain affiliations with leading international cancer organizations.

As a tertiary referral center, we handle complex cases from across India and neighboring countries. Our research arm, the Advanced Centre for Treatment, Research and Education in Cancer (ACTREC), pioneers translational research, bringing laboratory discoveries to clinical practice. Surgical Oncology

Our surgical oncology department performs over 10,000 cancer surgeries annually, using minimally invasive techniques like laparoscopy and robotic-assisted surgery for precise tumor removal. Procedures include complex resections for breast, gastrointestinal, head and neck, and thoracic cancers. We have dedicated operation theaters equipped with intraoperative imaging and navigation systems.

Post-operative care is managed by specialized teams to ensure quick recovery and reduced complications. We also offer reconstructive surgery options to improve quality of life after cancer removal.

Radiation Therapy

We provide advanced radiation therapy using state-of-the-art linear accelerators, including IMRT, IGRT, and SBRT. Our department has 15 radiation machines, treating over 300 patients daily. Techniques like proton therapy and brachytherapy are available for targeted tumor destruction while sparing healthy tissues.

Our radiation oncologists work with medical physicists to create personalized treatment plans using 3D simulation and dosimetry. We also offer palliative radiation for pain relief in advanced cancers.

Medical Oncology

The medical oncology unit delivers chemotherapy, immunotherapy, targeted therapy, and hormonal therapy. We have 120 infusion chairs across 5 dedicated chemotherapy suites, managed by trained oncology nurses. We use genomic profiling to tailor treatments based on tumor biomarkers.

Our pharmacists prepare chemotherapy doses in a sterile environment, ensuring safety. We also run a robust supportive care program to manage side effects like nausea, fatigue, and neuropathy.

Diagnostic Imaging

Our radiology department features 3 Tesla MRI, 256-slice CT, PET-CT, and digital mammography for accurate cancer staging and monitoring. All imaging is interpreted by subspecialty radiologists with expertise in oncologic imaging. We perform image-guided biopsies and interventions using ultrasound and CT guidance.

We follow international protocols for low-dose radiation exposure and offer same-day reporting for urgent cases.

Palliative Care

Our palliative care team focuses on improving quality of life for patients with advanced cancer. Services include pain management, symptom control, psychosocial support, and end-of-life care. We have a 30-bed inpatient palliative unit and offer home care services across Mumbai.

The team includes palliative physicians, nurses, social workers, and counselors who provide holistic support to patients and families.

Genetic Counseling

We offer genetic testing and counseling for hereditary cancer syndromes like BRCA, Lynch syndrome, and familial adenomatous polyposis. Our genetic counselors assess family history and provide risk assessment, followed by targeted genetic testing.

Results are explained in detail, with recommendations for surveillance and preventive measures. We also conduct research on population-specific genetic mutations in Indian patients.

June 15, 2024

New Immunotherapy Lab Inaugurated

Tata Memorial Hospital launched a state-of-the-art immunotherapy laboratory to develop CAR-T cell therapies for blood cancers. The facility, funded by the Department of Biotechnology, will conduct clinical trials for Indian patients. Dr. N. R. Datta, Director, stated, "This lab bridges research and clinical application, offering hope for refractory cancers."

Rural Screening Camps in Maharashtra

Our mobile screening units conducted camps in 10 villages of Nashik district, detecting 50 early-stage cancers. Over 2,000 individuals underwent free oral, cervical, and breast cancer screenings. The initiative, in collaboration with the Maharashtra Health Department, aims to reduce late-stage presentations. Patients with positive findings were referred to our main center for treatment.

International Oncology Conference 2024

We hosted the 5th International Conference on Cancer Therapeutics, attracting 1,500 delegates from 30 countries. Key topics included precision oncology, AI in radiology, and cost-effective care models. Dr. Priya Patel presented our outcomes on hypofractionated radiation for breast cancer.
